in san francisco, we have been the beneficiary. all small businesses should be aware that we have been the beneficiary of a lot of good resources for small businesses. we have more nonprofits that are funded through micro lending here in the city from sba programs. some are expected to be looked at for budget cuts. some will continue. but we have more of those programs in san francisco, really, in any other city in california. we also have a small business commission. that is unique. the folks who are here, who have been supporting small business for many years are the reasons why san francisco's small business community has a voice in ways that other cities and businesses in those cities do not. i think we have, in san francisco, the benefit of a lot of good resources here, some of which are here because of federal funds, some of which because folks in this room have been an advocate for small business. we are hoping the impact of tight budgets all levels still allows us to have the tools we have been able to use for small busines

i was formally -- formerly a gang member who grew up in san francisco. we all have stories of guys involved with the gang. everyone has a different story of why they joined. my thing is, i believe it works for me to be involved with kids who were in gangs -- i worked with all of the shot colors and i had a goal while i was there. it took me 10 years before i started to transform my life. in the meantime i have the goal that i wanted to be out here. i wanted the opportunity. i was given a life sentence in 1979. i was involved in gang and i caught a murder case. 15 years to life -- and i came here in 1979 and i got out -- and i have been out for almost five years. in my heart, i knew i found a solution when i was incarcerated. and there are different stories. some of the kids joined the gangs because they want to fit into something. some of them don't have a family, and the father and mother are working. for a lot of kids, there is a lot of idle time. it is not like, i will join the gang and i will shoot you. you grow up that way, and before you know you a

again those are the first new buses to hit the streets of san francisco since 2006, 2005. as you know, we of one of the oldest bus systems in the region. this is a long time in coming. i want to thank you you all for you leadership. they'll have a bunch of significant better features. so that is moving on schedule. very happy about that. the other news kind of in line with capital funding i want to give you a little update on the city's capital plan. every two years the city updates at any time capital plan this was put together and recommended by a committee of folks which i have one of the seats. the plan every other year is submit to the mayor and the board of supervisors on march 1st. to last week the capital committee approved the next capital plan, which notably has some significant investments for street improvement in this plan. there is a new funding category of new general fund expenditures. on one side there's several hundreds of thousands of dollars for street improvement. we will be able to continue the improvement of the streets which will benefit our transit
